El nombre para algunos puede sonar a Derek Riggs quien popularizó a Eddie en sus terroríficas pinturas quien vino a la vida si mal no recuerdo en 1980. Para otros puede ser Captain Red, de la película Pirates de Roman Polanski, quien al parecer afirma que su verdadero nombre es Benjamin Breeg. Aún otros piensan que era un sobrenombre de Paul Di’anno o incluso ecuentran similitudes con Winston Churchill.
La historia comienza cuando Steve Harris decide el nombre esa canción a finales del 2005.
En el sitio http://www.benjaminbreeg.co.uk/ un señor llamado A. Breeg dice buscar a su primo Benjamin Breeg desaparecido sin dejar rastros en 1978.
Según cuenta Benjamin Breeg era un pintor nacido en 1939, y que el primer trabajo que tuvo fue sepulturero. Adicionalmente se menciona que viajó a distintos lugares, Haití y Rumania entre ellos.
Luego de una lectura detallada del sitio, aparecen las siguientes dudas acerca de la veracidad del mismo.
El señor A. Breeg al estar revisando la casa de su madre después de la muerte de esta, se encuentra con una fotografía familiar tomada en 1977, en el cual hay una persona que el no reconoce, luego le aclaran que su nombre es Benjamin Breeg y él es su primo que desaparecio en 1978. La pregunta es ¿por qué si existe una fotografía no fue lo primero en publicarse en la página?.
Otra cosa que se debe notar es la suerte de enigma de un e-mail escrito desde Rumania, el primer mail escrito estaba en rumano, si alguien pudo leer el mensaje en inglés también pudo escribirlo en inglés desde un principio.

La historia sigue así, Benjamin Breeg según cuenta A. Breeg, quedó huerfano tempranamente habiendo muerto sus padres en un incendio. Benjamin Breeg estuvo presente, pero misteriosamente se salvó. Luego habría de ser considerado un niño problema y no se acomodó con ninguna d elas 3 familias que intentaron adoptarlo. Entonces comenzó a interesarse obsesivamente en la Biblia, se le paso por la mente incluso ingresar al sacerdocio, viajó por muchos lugares, era pintor y escritor. Escribió 4 libros de ocultismo de los cuales no se tienen copias.
Sabemos por lo que cuenta un amigo de Benjamin Breeg que tenía pesadillas,y comenzamos a ver la luz. Aquí comienza la historia de Benjamin Breeg a parecerse a las camciones de Iron Maiden, es un tema recurrente las pesadillas. Luego se dice que veía cosas horribles y las pintaba, su amigo dice con respecto a eso, algo como gracias a Dios por no tener acceso a esa mente.
Según la letra de la canción Benjamin Breeg se culpa de haber hecho cosas muy malas… como podría ser haber matado a sus padres también dice ver cosas que preferiría no ver.
Por último en la portada del single de “The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg” aparece como fecha de la muerte 1978 (al igual que la fecha en que supuestamente desapareció Benjamin Breeg) y Eddie con una picota a punto de excavar ¿su propia tumba…?
